Every professional sports league has an award for the Most Valuable Player. The MVP is the super star individual that is one of the best players in the league, means the most to their team, and as an owner would be the first person you would pick as the one player you would most want to build a team around.
When you incorporate as many marketing strategies as I do, it’s hard to determine what domino falls first. In other words, what marketing piece or what marketing collateral means the most to my business. After all, I use Infusionsoft a pretty powerful CRM. I regularly leverage social media platforms, speak at events, and pretty regularly appear on TV as a celebrity guest expert.
So what marketing matters most? What marketing do I continue to want to build my business around?
Books! My MVP of Marketing is the books I write, publish, and promote.
Books have gotten me attention, separated me from the competition, landed me speaking gigs, given me content for marketing campaigns, earned me fans, packaged and framed my ideas in a Tiffany box, and ultimately gotten me on TV programs like Fox and Friends or the Today Show.
My books leverage the Law of Multiplication, marketing one set of ideas and formulas multiple ways, multiple times, for multiple people.
I have done very well with books, writing forewords for people, endorsing them, contributing to them, and even co-authoring them occasionally. Every book I have ever done has helped me in some way, several of them making me hundreds of thousands of dollars. But it wasn’t until my 8th book that I really struck gold, and here is why:
A great book done right can open more doors and make you more money than anything else, guaranteed.
Before you ever try to market or sell again, ask yourself about these four areas of when experts make the most. Good is good enough when you are getting started, but in order to maximize every opportunity you should strengthen these four areas as much as you can.
Yes, we help people with brand strategy sessions, photos, videos, websites, and PR, but books are the one thing that brings it all together. Lead with a book. Nothing else compares or comes close for the time and the money. If you already have a book, then look to improve it. The cover is where most people fall short and have opportunities left on the table.
Even your book should nail the 4 areas of when Experts Make the Most. One of the reasons why good people with good content put off a book is because they are overwhelmed by the process and time involved. The truth is you can start to benefit from a book in just a couple of days with a good cover announcing your book coming soon.
Just look at a few of the books we have done for clients in just the last couple months alone:
